I stopped eating Negro soul food about 10 years ago, as it is extremely bad for your health (your heart and your arteries will thank you for cutting out that swine), and I'm not really a fan of the taste of that so-called "scrap food."
However, people love to eat their junk food, particularly anything that's made from pork products. I'm not the nutritionist, but I believe pork is chump for you because it's so dense in fats.
Some people don't give a fly-F and they just keep eating pork anyway.
Well I've got good news for you, read on...
A group of university researchers in the United States announced Sunday that they had created what sounds like a nutritional holy grail: cloned pigs that make their own omega-3 fatty acids, potentially leading to bacon and pork chops that might help your heart.
For now, the benefits of the research are highly theoretical. Omega-3 fatty acids, which have been linked to reduced incidence of heart disease, are primarily found in fish. No one knows whether the omega-3s would have the same effect if people ate them in pork, because the saturated fat in pork might cancel any benefits.
And government approval for such genetically modified foods is certain to face opposition from consumer groups.
Alexander Leaf, an emeritus professor of clinical medicine at Harvard, said he was confident that pork and other foods with omega-3s would eventually get to consumers and that consumers would be the better for it.
"People can continue to eat their junk food," Leaf said. "You won't have to change your diet, but you will be getting what you need."
For years, nutritionists have urged people to eat fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids. But fish can be expensive, not everyone likes it and omega-3s are in greatest abundance in oily fish like tuna, which contains mercury. Not to mention the fact that fish tastes a WHOLE LOT BETTER THAN pig!
What's next? I don't know, do you? Who am I? I am someone who makes films. What do I do? I look through viewfinders. And how do I live? I live by the skin of my teeth.

Quit Pushing Dave Chappelle
Over the weekend I had a chance to see Dave's flick Dave Chappelle's Block Party, and I was extremely surprised. Mainly because the trailers and promos don't do the film justice. It's not a comedy film, it's a music documentary up there with the Woodstock film or The Last Waltz or Gimme Shelter or any of the other successful concert films that we've seen over the past forty years. The one interesting note is that concert was record in September 2004, right before John Legend droppped his amazing debut album, and we see John up on the bandstand backing up Kanye West. Curious bit of history missed, in that we could have seen an early performance of John before he became a staple in the urban music scene.
The film is one of the most entertaining films in recent memory (as 2004 & 2005 were rife with junk from all corners of the entertainment spectrum), Dave continues delight and entertain like the best of them (sadly, though this is before he cancelled Season Three of his wildly popular show, so who knows if he'll want to invite this kind of attention again..."
It was interesting seeing The Fugees come back together and preform. I wonder if this performance was the catalyst for their supposed reuniting to record a new album (it was scheduled to drop last December, so I'm not going to hold my breath).
I couldn't understand Erykah Badu's presentation... I'd be extremely curious to talk with her, as most entertainer men who have kicked it with her have suffered some sort of distortion affect.
Favorite Lines: "How many white people does it take to change a light bulb? None, they'll just get a nigga to do it."
(sic)The thing about The Sty is, you walk down one street and it's right out of the Cosby Show, you turn the corner and it's something right out of Good Times.
The one thing this film shows, at the end, is that Dave has thumbed his nose at the white power establishment, in that he's told them, "ya can't buy me, ya cracker bastards." This makes him more of an icon, but also puts him in a weird place, because I think a lot of people don't want to deal with a Black man in entertainment who can't "be bought."

Enough Already
Okay, you know what's killing me (softly)? Is that the Natalee Holloway investigation is still in the news. The chick's been missing since las May -- from a tropical island! She's not even fish food anymore, she's plankton. or part of the reef right now!
And yet, she's gets full story write up on CCN.com today.
No one is every going to find her.
Just chalk it with the rest of disappearances or killings that never get solved. Some old Jack The Ripper type of shits.

Americans = Idiots On The Higest Magnitude
Recent reports have stated that far too many students can't pass the High School Exiting Exams. In fact some kids are suing their State government, because they've passed all their classes and done everything else required by their school district to get a diploma, but the State says no.
One huge problem with the United State Education System is that each little township controls the educational standards.
Funny thing is people enjoy being dumb. Take the Gas Pricing, it's averaged out to 2.51/gallon. Pretty much what it was when everyone was screaming bloody murder last year, and the Oil Industry made such record profits that the leaders of that Industry (part of the Bush cabal) have been called up to testify in front of Theocratic control GOP run Congress.
And do the under-40 set give a shit? Nope!
The public is so selfishly caught up in what ever else is infecting their puny little lives that they've just absorbed the price hike like it ain't no thing.
What it is, is a Tax that feeds the corporate robber barons, instead of the government, to pay for the War In Iraq. Bush is playing it smart, he's refusing to raise taxes, because that just puts money in the hands of the Government; by enabling the petroleum industry to gouge the fuck out of the consumer, the so-called Gas Tax is making all the Bushies who are getting no-bid hand-outs, uh I mean contracts, from the Government more wealthy than they need to be.
What's the biggest kick in the pants (or should I say nutsack) is that Hybrid Car sales are faltering, because consumers have "done the math" and feel that the premium price tag of the hybrid doesn't off-set the higher gas prices (at their current level, they will go up by next summer, breaching $3/gal. for most places except the Heartland of America) IN THE MUTHAFUCKIN' SHORT RUN.
The issue with hybrid cars is not to save a quarter or two at the pump, but to ween the country off of diminishing fossil fuels for transportation; thereby localizing oil for use only as a power source for the Big Grids that juice up our over-populated megaopolises.
If I still didn't owe money on my car (5 payments left!!!), I look into getting a hybrid. Only thing is I'm NEVER going to have a Car Note again. Which means that if I don't the cash to pay for it, or some other income stream that can handle the car note and still pay for the rest of car owning expense AND still kick me a little cash, then I'm not getting rid of my current car for another 3 to 5 years.
Have you ever seen how the Taliban-esque Evangelical Christians that dominate the South and Republican politics believe in this janky-ass concept called Imminent Rapture? Not the expert, it's basically a concept where the Earth is 'bout to get ass-fucked and only the true believers of Christ's teachings (as outlined by people like Jerry Falwell) will survive by going to Heaven (apparently there's a whole cottage industry on this belief, with millions of books being sold and converting Southerns into this boolshit line of thinking). Anyway, the shameless trick about Imminent Rapture is that it forecasts a wild explosion of the society that we know, which makes planning for the future, completely and totally unnecessary.
We can listen to Prez. Bush with a tin ear, 'cause he doesn't really have to means or power or political clout to ween the adicted American economy off of oil from those chumps in the Middle East.
Americans will reap what they've sown. Malcolm X said it, and I'm saying it again.

BOOK REVIEW - AMERICAN THEOCRACY
Kevin Philips, the man who coined the term Sunbelt in the late 60s and predicted the rise of the neoConservative Moment, smacks the hell out of that brand of corrupted politics in his new book. A semi-polemic that meticulously outlines what will cause the end of America, as it still vociferously
Although Phillips is scathingly critical of what he considers the dangerous policies of the Bush administration, he does not spend much time examining the ideas and behavior of the president and his advisers. Instead, he identifies three broad and related trends — none of them new to the Bush years but all of them, he believes, exacerbated by this administration's policies — that together threaten the future of the United States and the world. One is the role of oil in defining and, as Phillips sees it, distorting American foreign and domestic policy. The second is the ominous intrusion of radical Christianity into politics and government. And the third is the astonishing levels of debt — current and prospective — that both the government and the American people have been heedlessly accumulating. If there is a single, if implicit, theme running through the three linked essays that form this book, it is the failure of leaders to look beyond their own and the country's immediate ambitions and desires so as to plan prudently for a darkening future.
The American press in the first days of the Iraq war reported extensively on the Pentagon's failure to post American troops in front of the National Museum in Baghdad, which, as a result, was looted of many of its great archaeological treasures. Less widely reported, but to Phillips far more meaningful, was the immediate posting of troops around the Iraqi Oil Ministry, which held the maps and charts that were the key to effective oil production. Phillips fully supports an explanation of the Iraq war that the Bush administration dismisses as conspiracy theory — that its principal purpose was to secure vast oil reserves that would enable the United States to control production and to lower prices. ("Think of Iraq as a military base with a very large oil reserve underneath," an oil analyst said a couple of years ago. "You can't ask for better than that.") Terrorism, weapons of mass destruction, tyranny, democracy and other public rationales were, Phillips says, simply ruses to disguise the real motivation for the invasion.
There is little in "American Theocracy" that is wholly original to Phillips, as he frankly admits by his frequent reference to the work of other writers and scholars. What makes this book powerful in spite of the familiarity of many of its arguments is his rare gift for looking broadly and structurally at social and political change. By describing a series of major transformations, by demonstrating the relationships among them and by discussing them with passionate restraint, Phillips has created a harrowing picture of national danger that no American reader will welcome, but that none should ignore.

MOVIE REVIEW - BRICK
everyone has a soft spot for a center film genre, and mine is for film noir. I was bitten by the hard-boiled bug when I was in high school, and American Movie Classics just debuted. I saw a bunch of those 40s flicks, stuff like Murder, My Sweet, The Big Magambo, Out of the Past, Where The Sidewalk Ends, and Laura. I couldn't get over the distinctive dialogue and delivery style of Spade, Marlowe and the others. I loved the twisted motives that circled around the murder and mayhem in that underbelly of society that those films mined so well.
Even when the genre got revivied in the early 80s and then again in the early 90s, that rip-your-head-off dialogue was absent (except in a few notable films). Obviously audiences wouldn't put up the now-cliched dialogue in a now-cliched situations in New York or LA.
Last night however, it was back (not in its glory, but close enough) in a seeminly slieght film called Brick, a film noir set in of all places southern Orange County, CA with high school seniors as our players. The cast is a bunch of nobodies, except for the weird performance by , the luminous key, but bit role by Emilie de Ravin (the best thing going on LOST) and the hot, hot, hot Meagan Goode - you remember her, right?

How can you forget those DSLs? I can't.
Meagan's performance continued make me a big fan, because it was role that showed she has some acting skills -- basically because she's not playing an archetypical Black Girl role; you know what I'm talking about... a hoochie, a golddiggin' slut, a neck-snaking ghetto bitch, or a gangster's moll (surprising, considering this was a film noir).
The Orange County location with its absentee adults and wacked out kids is a perfect setting for a new entry into the genre. Mainly, because you can't go a month without reading in the newspaper about some sad saps in the O.C. doing some bizarre-ass shit, like schoolyard planned & sanctioned gang rapes, E and coke trafficking in the cafeteria or at the local Carl's Jr., and laughable gun violence that these wannabe's emulate from their silly infatuation with the likes of the gangsta rappers they somehow feel kinship with.
The movie does a great job lifting and re-imagining the hardboiled dialogue that made everyone believe Humphery Bogart was a tough guy.
I don't know when it's coming out, and it's probably going to be overshadowed by the wildly overhyped V FOR VENDETTA - could be good, could be bad, the Wachowski Brothers are only batting .125, let's not forget that (how'd I get that number? They've been behind 5 films, so you do the math. Not living up to their potential, I'd say).
Anyway, the only interesting film noir that was out recently was that UK import Layer Cake, I'm reading the novel right now, I'll tell you how it is once I'm done. Good so far. A bit cheeky, but that's the point.

Make Fun Of The Prophet... And Die!
There's been a lot of hub-bub about the so-called venerable prophet Mohammad getting skewered in European (mainly Danish) political cartoons -- and it has the Arab world up in arms (like that's something new).
From what I can tell, the Europeans have been satirizng Mohammad for quite some time, and it's only now that it's boiled over...
But the fact the Arabs are tripping points to the fact that they are basically perverting one of the tenants of Islam -- which is tolerance. YEAH! You wouldn't know it, by the way the Arabs behave. But you have to look at it this way: Arab culture took claim of Islam and the rulers and reactionary clerics have systematically used it to continue to oppress the people. Everything that hinders so-called progress (in terms of what the Occidental economics would call progress) can be justified by the Arab elite by turning to the Quran or siting something Mohammad said.
And keeping the people down is what the Arabian oligarchs do best -- better than anybody on the planet, maybe in the history of the world...
Check this out -- I was reading an interview with the State Department's press liaison, and she made a remark that tripped me out. When she was in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi women were upset at Bush and the U.S. Government for permitting Oprah to do a show about sexual repression in the Muslim world. Indicating that in the Muslim world the citizenery is so ignorant (and sheltered) as to think that Oprah's show is a government program. They honestly believe that. It's easy to see why... in their frame of reference TV and all its programming is controled by the fat, wealthy as hell rulers, sanctioned by clerics and thus there is no creatively free shows or shows that operates with a license to say what they want without repuercussions (like getting your tongue cut the fuck out!).
In the eyes of the liberal West, Islam and Mohammad are just plump and juicy ripe for satire and comedy. I have to believe that something will pop up on South Park (I never watch the show anymore, but know that scandalize Jesus and the Devil).
Arab culture needs to take the reins off, get sucked up in the maelstrom of conspicuous consumption and abusive capitalism -- then religion can get attacked, questioned, revered, and celebrated the way it is in the West... but will that ever happen?
Nah -- the Arabs have been trippin' since before the time of Caesar, they'll keep trippin' forever if you ask me.

Servey Says... Smack That Booty!
Have you ever been to the website
www.bootyvote.com?
It's exactly what the title purports to be a place where ass photos are rated by the myriad of viewers (4000+) who visit the site on a regular basis.
This shouldn't really cause any comment, least of all from me, but it got me thinking -- entertainment has changed quite considerably since the Internet has infected the culture.
Digital, disposable, solitary entertainment experiences is what the the under 25 set is going to know and love -- group enjoyment is old school, because the effects of letting the computer, VCR and latest gaming console act as the main forms of occupying a growing kids time has pushed the youth, particularly young males, into a more solitary existence. Where interaction with other humans becomes an annoyance or an obligation, not something that is cherished, relished and expected.
The other day I was at the Santa Monica mall and saw these two teenage girls shopping together. Nothing out of the ordinary, except they were both listening to their iPods as they walked around, and only disengaged their headphones to test an item with the other. I thought, this is disturbing because they aren't really together -- they're not socializing the
On a certain level, I don't give a good fuck, because I'm not going to be living in the U.S. that much longer. All of the Baby Boomers are going to suck this country dry once they begin to retire, and need all sorts of social programs to deal with the decaying of their bodies. And who's going to pay for it? All the new immigrants from South and Central America and East Asia that are going to be coming over here. The population growth is going to continue to come from immigration, and the work opportunities are going to be less and less. Thus extending the gap between the haves and the have nots.
So when the average white kid gets displaced 'cause he's been spending too much time in front of his webcam singing to the Web-universe and not learning Spanish, advanced mathematics and Chinese, it's not going to be my problem at all. 'Cause I'll just shake my head from Sydney or Madrid...
If figure Europe will retain it's cultural identity and standard of living better than the US, because they'll pass laws to protect their culture -- as they do with movies and TV.
The US will be a true melting pot of megacities that have humdrum exiistence in cubicles or working shit jobs just get by on credit.

Return of the King
Did y'all see The Boondocks episode where MLK survived his assassination, was in a coma and then woke up around the time of September 11th?
That was some damn hard core skewering of Black people. You gotta give McGruder some dap for putting Nigga Pop culture on BLAST! 'Cause it sure needs it.
Outside of the Eddie Murphy "Don't Bring Me Down Hymie Town" skit on SNL, I haven't seen the Southern Baptist speach cadence used to such comic effect and such flunking, as McGrudger's scripting of MLK speaking out about "all the ass-whippings" he got weren't worth the current wild'n out behavior that niggas kick all the time now.
When MLK claims BET is the worst thing he's ever seen, that's a complete FADE! and a truism. Considering that Reggie Hudlin is an Exec Producer on the show, pretty much cultivated McGrudger into Hollywood (or at least that's the rumor), but now that Reggie is head of BET, is that a case of biting that hand that feeds you?
I don't know if Reggie is still involved in The Boondocks, even though he receives an Executive Producer credit. But I do know that a certain number of the original writers having nothing good to say about McGrudger.
I don't know the nigga, but he's getting a good handle of what it means to crack on the slummin' nature of pop culture that's influenced by the so-called "urban nature" of American megapolises.
You gotta love that Unkle Ruckus is rejoicing Jim Crow in the flashbacks -- niggas, never know a good thing when they have it and they don't no a damn thing about their past. Modern Niggas that is.
That was some damn hard core skewering of Black people. You gotta give McGruder some dap for putting Nigga Pop culture on BLAST! 'Cause it sure needs it.

Get It Right, Please!
I’m looking at the TIME magazine from two weeks ago (Jan. 16, 2006), and in the “Movies” section there’s a overview of the so-called great performances of 2005. Heading up the list is everyone’s favorite nubile nyphm du jour Scarlett Johansson – the article starts off with “She’s blond, she’s curvaceously configured, and she has those remarkably proportioned lips.” I had to stop reading right fucking there – remarkably proportioned lips?
For a white girl!
Just like Angelina Jolie gets a lot of tabloid ink for having what would have been called in pre-1970s America “Nigger Lips” (just ask Michelle Pfeiffer). Take on-the-rise Black nyphm Megan Goode, for example –

What’s up with her lips? Aren’t they just as luscious as Johansson’s or Jolie’s? Oh, I forgot as a Black woman in Hollywood (or anyplace in the mainstream media) she’s not going to get any comments for having explosive Dick Sucking Lips (that’s what ever single article about Johansson and Jolie wants to say, and can’t). And when you want to talk about “body” – Megan is as bad as they cum.

I am by no way bashing or shitting on Johansson – in fact, I’m happy she was finally in a good role in Woody Allen's new flick. Up to now everything else she’s done – except for Ghost World – has been so-so, either in script or in her performance. I remember seeing her in Ghost World, and saying “magnetic…” But where are the roles? Sure she can be the Lolita that everyone wanted her to be between the ages of 17 and 21, but I could almost careless for her work in, say The Island or A Love Song For Bobby Fisher or American Rhapsody or The Perfect Score. There’s a lot of energy behind her eyes, and I don’t see it in the work. Maybe she just gets chump parts…
In Match Point, she plays the cloying bitch very well. But in her interviews since Lost In Translation, that doesn’t seem like too much of a stretch… I guess she’s filling the shoes that would have gone to Winona Ryder, if she hadn’t screwed her career.
Obviously Kiera Knightley and Natalie Portman are getting the juicest roles for that age range… and anything older Miss DSL herself Angelina is the hottest of the hot.
So when it comes to DSLs, and the way they’re worshiped in the media… the choice is yours.

Or

Truth be told… in the TIME article, the most underrated (and smallest photo) goes to the Number One Stunner – Gong Li.

Hope she doesn’t get treated like shit by Hollywood.

Academy Dumps The Nigga Host
So ho, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences chose Jon Stewart to host this years Oscar broadcast.
This is going to be fun, although probably not nearly as barbed and un-PC as Chris Rock's stint last year. I have to say, the Academy got what they expected and didn't expect with C-Rock. I figure the expected Rock to hand the Chump-in-Chief his ass -- which he did, but he also did something else -- put a foot in Hollywood's ass!
In an attempt to shake up their sagging rating C-Rock took the mic and did what America has always hated - having an intelligent Black Man in the middle of the media spotlight, who is smart, articulate and well-versed on the crimes perpetrated by the country and more specifically the industry he's in to have full reign to speak for more than a 20 second sound bite. I'll never forget the barbs C-Rock threw at Jude Law, ultimately claiming that he wasn't even a movie star, nor will I forget how he shoved a shiv in the movie studio execs who continually release shitty Black films with criminally inept titles like Barbershop, The Cook-Out, The Wash, Booty Call, Sprung, and My Baby's Mama. I never understand why nigga flicks have the most banal titles imaginable, do you? Are Black People not cogent enough to have a subtle or slick or inviting title, like Crash or The Constant Gardner or Brokeback Mountain?
Apparently, some Academy members found Mr. Rock, who took as many hard-ass jabs at the overly sanctimoniousness of the industry as he did at President Bush, was insufficiently respectful of the movie industry. My thing is why should Rock have been reverential to Hollywood? It's know for treating Blacks like craven dogs, who are forced to scavenge for meals from the scraps left by their owners.
Mr. Gil Cates, the producer of this year's Oscar broadcast said he wasn't worried that Mr. Stewart might cross the line of taste in matters of politics or Hollywood protocol. "He's hilarious, he's irreverent," said Mr. Cates. "He knows the difference between being irreverent and being over the top. I'm very excited about it."
Now that quote, if you decipher the subterfuge infected text, sounds like this me: "Who does that nigger Chris Rock tried to embarrass the (hairy, hidden) Hand that feeds him, think he is?!? Disparage niggers all you want on your HBO Specials, Chris, but don't you dare take a stanky shit on the high priests of the post-modern Church! When you're given a chance to speak at their pulpit Now we have to cut ya!" This is all said in the upper halls of power that are draped with repurposed white sheets. I'm not saying that Cates or the Academy is racist, that would be too easy -- and too wrong.
I wonder how Rock's script would have been this year -- if he was choosen -- and Aaron McGrudder of Boondocks fame was helping with the writing chores.
Anyway, I'll probably drop a bomb or two after this years Oscars. I'm actually looking forward to seeing Jon Stewart, as I rarely ever watch his show; it must be good though!

Home Theatre - Where Popcorn & Soda Are Cheap
Toshiba is lauching their HD-DVD format with a $500 machine in March, and then later this year the Sony Blu-Ray standard will get launched, initially in PS3, and then in home units.
This is interesting, because what I want to see is what HD standard do the computer companies install in their machines. I'd like to see the computer companies adopt Blu-Ray and the consumer for movies latch on to HD-DVD, simply because the BIGGEST mistake Hollywood made with DVDs is employing a technology that was also made available as a stotage medium for PCs. Hence the huge private market.
Xbox 360 doesn't use an optical disc that any other technology platform (or maybe it's only the encoding that is differen) uses, in an effort to cut down on bootleg games.
Hollywood, in its supreme, but expected and historical, shortsightedness on Profits Now, didn't think twice about rolling out all the libraries of films on DVD, not realizing that the hijacking of intellecutal property was on the way up and seen first hand with CDs.
Now Hollywood has a chance to reclaim lost revenue, which should bolster the balance sheet, by carefully watching what happens with the HD DVD market.
Although, I think the both system, much like DATs, won't penetrate the mainstream consumer market. Although that could change once HDTV is in just about every household in America. And when is that again?
Oh yeah, sometime after the end of the Mayan Calender. Just enough time for me to make enough money not to worry about it.

You Stupid Cow!
Scandal Monger Paris Hilton is being sued for $10million for spreading “vicious lies” about a romantic rival in London.
This is TOO FUNNY! I mean, damn, it smacks like something out of a Truman Capote novella or that funny, bizarre time of young woman chat-fighting that characterized the '50s and '60s - remember those movies like A Letter To Three Wives or Indiscreet? Where lies about who's fucking who in so-called high society was all the rage. Making claims like, “I'm going to destroy you.” Who does she think she is? Hedda Hopper?
I'm chortling with glee that Paris is getting embarrassed and exposed as a snarky bitch (like that's a surpise!). As evidence by that tape that came out when she called these Black clothing designers stupid niggers.
Obviously, Paris is out of control. And she had to cool her smoking pussy and soften her hard tits when she sat down and to give a deposition in the Zeta Graff suit. Curiously coincidental, this promoter is seeking a restraining order against Paris - something to do with Paris near-slandering and issuing death threats! Death threats! Like she's Marie Antoinette or something! Maybe her fate should be the same?!
The $10 million hit (if Zeta Graff wins the suit) isn't going to sting Paris that much, her clothing line can pay that fine in a week, but the court of public opinion will be shellacking our favorite cumdumpster for sometime. Although not too long, unfortunately, as she is the Teflon heiress. Which is too bad, because with all her money that she uses to shape her public image, the unearned fame is showing that she's just another spoiled, bratty slut who feels that she can control the world, because in “her World” people bow to her (in awe 'cause of her money, and the potential chance to taste her pussy?). Sadly, if she wanted to have someone killed in a jealous rage or fit of fame/money insanity, she is rich and those muthafuckas can and do get away with just about anything.

Alternative Sex… It's the RAGE
Ever since Paris Hilton's fuck/dick suck tape came out and was mass marketed not to her detriment, but as means to boost her fame, pornography and sex has been shedding that media taboo - which is a good thing, but I've always suspected that there are a few styles of sexual exploration that will still cause a rancor, a nose wrinkle, a raised eyebrow. And one of those is BDSM.
I have a friend who is a Dominatrix, and I wanted her to be able to you tell what the lifestyle means, hopefully she's dispelled a lot of misconceptions about this so-called Alternative Lifestyle. I say “so-called” because everyone has their fetish, and a lot of people would enjoy sex with at least a blindfold on… let your other senses control the experience.
Anyway, here's the slim on the smacdown:
BDSM is an acronym of "B&D" (Bondage & Discipline), "D&S" (Dominance & Submission), and "S&M" (sadomasochism). "BDSM" refers to any or all of these things, and a lot of stuff besides.
Tying up your lover is BDSM; so is flogging that person, or bossing that person around, or any of a thousand other things. BDSM is highly erotic, usually (though not always) involves sex or sexual tension; and is highly psychologically charged. One person (the "submissive") agrees to submit to another person (the "dominant"); or, alternately, one person agrees to receive some sort of sensation, such as spanking, from another.
Some people like to be submissive all the time, some people like to be dominant all the time; some people like to switch, being submissive one day and dominant the next.
For the most part, people who are into this kind of thing are remarkably well-adjusted. People involved in BDSM generally are neither abusive nor come from backgrounds where they were abused, because people with that kind of backgrounds aren't likely to be sexually turned on by giving someone else power over them. That doesn't mean that no BDSM relationship is abusive--since people are what they are, no form of human interaction is immune to abuse. But it does mean that the people you'll find in the BDSM community are, for the most part, very stable. (In fact, if you're going to get involved in this kind of stuff, it helps to have a cast-iron ego and a strong sense of self, particularly if you're a submissive.)
Some people think anyone interested in BDSM is suffering from some kind of past abuse. I think that the "BDSM interest=past abuse" assertion is most frequently made by people who don't understand what BDSM is. They see someone being flogged, they say "Oh! People in a BDSM relationship get hit; people in an abusive relationship get hit; ergo, BDSM is like an abusive relationship. QED."
But the fact is, the psychology of a BDSM power exchange is vastly different from the psychology of abuse; and in a BDSM relationship, the psychology is frequently driven by the limitations of the submissive, not the dominant. Typically, it is the submissive who says "This far and no farther"--which is entirely contradictory to the psychology of abuse.
BDSM is not what it looks like from the outside. It's not just tying people up and having sex, and it's not just arbitrarily whipping people. That's very crude, and kind of boring. What it is is a sort of role-playing, where the people involved are acting out a fantasy that involves taking or giving up power. Sex is often involved, but not always.
The Ideal Person for this lifestyle is…
Uh-huh. Sure. The needs of the submissive. Right. The dominant is the one bossing the other person around; you'd have to be some kind of jerk to want to do that.
While that may seem like it makes sense on the surface, the truth is just the opposite. People who are good at dominating or inflicting pain are, in general, LESS likely than many other people to be jerks or assholes.
Why? Because in order to be good at doing it, you need to be highly in-tune with your submissive. People who are self-centered generally make poor dominants, because they lack the empathy required to be able to read and judge their partner's reactions, and bring their partner where that person wants to go. Assholes quickly find that nobody wants to play with them; and people who are empathetic tend not to be assholes. All of the real top-notch dominants I've ever met, without exception, are incredibly cool people.
In tune with your submissive? The dominant is the one calling the shots. What does the dominant care about the submissive?
Believe it or not, the dynamics of a BDSM relationship are often driven by the submissive, not by the dominant. The submissive sets the limits; the submissive decides what places can and can not be explored; the submissive has the ability to call a halt to the scene. The dominant, in many ways, is simply a facilitator. It's the dominant's job to create a setting where the people involved can explore the submissive's fantasies.
Dominating your partners does not mean that you don't want to please them. It is not always, or even usually, true that a dominant is interested in his own gratification rather than his submissive's. In fact, many dominants are driven as much by their desire to please their partner as by anything else; the psychology of a healthy BDSM relationship is driven by the submissive as well as by the dominant, and a dominant can take pleasure from gratifying the needs of the submissive just as easily as the submissive can take pleasure from gratifying the needs of the dominant. This kind of thing is not one-directional.
It's all for the submissive's benefit? Yeah, right. The submissive is the one being bossed around or spanked or whatever. How can you say that isn't abuse?
Simple. Two reasons:
In a BDSM relationship, the submissive sets the limits. A victim of abuse doesn't get a vote; the victim can't tell the abuser what to do, or how much to do it. A submissive sets all the limits--what kinds of things can be (and can't be!) done, how much, and for how long.
And while we're on the subject of limits, there is more than one kind of limit in a BDSM relationship. Everybody has "hard" limits--things that they absolutely will not do, and will not even consider. Some people, for example, like to be tied up but don't like the idea of being whipped; if they won't allow themselves to be whipped, ever, that's a hard limit.
There are also "soft" limits--things that someone won't do under ordinary circumstances, but will allow to be "forced" on him or her in the context of a particular scenario that's being acted out. Between soft limits and hard limits lies an interesting psychological territory to explore.
A submissive gets a way to opt out. This may be a code word, or a sign of some sort; if the submissive uses it, he or she has had enough and the scene is over. An abuse victim doesn't tell the abuser when to stop.
Okay, so that kind of explains the world, the expectations, and why it isn't really all that crazy.
My understanding in terms of the psychological viewpoint by the so-called general public is that physical punishment and giving sexual control (by men that is) is the antithesis of the American ethos…

The Name Of The Rose, Part Deux
I choose this image, because my thougts have to do with the Roman Catholic Church and its strict ass-whipping of peoples minds throughout the centuries that it's been around.
Have you been following the eruption of the Intelligent Design Debate that has poisoning our news outlets since its teaching was being denied in a Pennsylvania school district.
Last night the author of this book DARWIN'S BLACK BOX was yammering on Hannity & Combs about the value of his theory, even though it's nigh impossible to prove.
Intelligent Design sounds like an updated version of Creationism which is the bete noir for Darwin's Theory of Evolution/Natural Selection Concept. A friend of mine recommended that I read DARWIN'S BLACK BOX a couple year ago, but I never got around to it -- perhaps I should haven, although I might have thrown the book across the room (incidently, I decided to read GUNS, GERMS & STEEL instead, which is more than fascinating and captivating).
Anyway, as I listened to this guy Behe stridently argue with those provacateurs on Fox News this whole argument/debate began to remind me of something. And that something is Umberto Eco's novel THE NAME OF THE ROSE (which everyone should read, if they interested in understanding the absurdity of the Catholic Church). At the crux of the novel, behind the murder mystery and the denial of knowledge is this Church Debate between the Papacy and the Franciscian and Dominician monks in regards to whether or not Christ owned his clothes (as that would determine if the Church should take a vow of poverty).
Eco uses this damn-fool theological battleground to indicate the complete idiocy that people get concerned with when it comes to how did life as we know it come to exist on this planet.
You have to take into account their MUST be intelligent energy fields throughout the universe, otherwise how could you explain why we are here?
In THE NAME OF THE ROSE, no one seems to ask "why the fuck do we care if Christ owned his clothes or not, because there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to prove it." Yet these people (based off of real life shit) were actually calling each other heretics and getting people fucked over by the Inquisition and burned at the stake all in the name of some jackass principal.
I'm not one to say that you shouldn't fight long and hard for yout beliefs (otherwise you're a supreme bitch-ass), but what true consequence to the world that you inhabit occurs is Christ owned his clothers or to the point I'm addressing, if life evolved from Creationism, Intelligent Design or Natural Selection? On a certain level, natural selection requires a intelligence. You have to learn how to spot what is a fucked-up trait and what isn't?
WIll the world be better off if Intelligent Design taught in school? Fuck no. Will it be better off if Creationism is taught in school? Fuck no. Will it be better of is Evolution is taught in school? Fuck no.
See there is no gain from this course of perversion of study... why does it seem that this type of shit is always being fought over in the US Courts? 'Cause a high percentage of the US public (something 25%) are Evangelical Christians, and they not only want to have their beliefs, they want YOU to have their beliefs too! Whether you like it or not!
It's all still a Church v. State argument, and that should be curtailed to private study. Don't waste tax dollars on this field. If you belief in any of the possibilities, then go to college (or the library) and learn about this shit on your own AT YOUR OWN EXPENSE.

Get Your Head Out Of Your Oil-Stained Ass
In the wake of the release of the George Clooney star vehicle SYRIANA, Entertainment Weekly is running an article about "hot button" films.
First off, Syriana is easily one of the top five films to come out this year, perhaps in the past 3 years -- why? Because it is designed to make us examine the shit-ass politics and activity that Americans (and the Western/Modern world in general) need to re-examine, as in what the fuck are we doing to control to world's oil supply, and why are we doing anything to tackle the problem of the coming age -- renewable energy.
As a film, Syriana is complex, complicated, marvelous, startling, engaging, interesting, curiousity invoking, provacative, and entertaining (it better be that or the audiences THAT NEED TO SEE THIS movie, just won't come).
But the movie is coming under attack from the likes of Bill O'Reilly on his sham of show, claiming that George Clooney's two December films are flops. I think if the audience isn't going to see those films, it's because the audience that is under the age of 30 is damn dumb when it comes to world affairs and the history of the US before 1980... I mean, I has hanging out with this fool who just graduated from UCLA with a history degree and we were watching part of Oliver Stone's JFK, and this fool was lost as the story began to unfold, he kept asking questions about things that should have been obvious, should have been part of the study course for our youth. However, that wasn't the case... for this fool.
A movie like SYRIANA isn't about to cause public outrage, unless people are truly feeling guility about something. And maybe 'cause of the demand for cheap-as-fuck oil is making people feel like they shouldn't be chastised by some "rich-ass liberal" like Clooney (I happen to agree with his politics, though).

All This Talk About "The Enemy". uh which enemy are we talking about?
Today the Chump-in-Chief Prescott's Grandson who has the dubious distinction of being the 43rd president answered questions today about the potentially illegal wiretapping that the NSA has been doing on American citizens on US soil.
Shrub's main reason for actively flaunting the law -- this time -- is the al-Qaeda is THE ENEMY, and this Enemy adapts to the rigors of war (what combatant doesn't? A dead one!).
Bush be up here throwin' 'round the term THE ENEMY like it's coded word to increase the level of paranoia amongst the citizenery, and is shown a glimpse into the mind of a man who's out of touch with the people he's governing (whether they wanted him or not).
Also it smacks of a binary intrepretation of the world stage -- you're either with us, or against us!
I wonder if there is going to be any kind of repercussions for Bush? Probably nothing like what Clinton suffered through just 'cause he stuck a cigar in an interns dickslot! I mean the man authorized the transgression of a mainstay of American governmental standards (even if those standards deal with clandestine operations) -- we don't spy on our people, unless we get a court order. How hard is it to get a court order? It can even been hush-hush so the vigilant press corps can't blabber the info to the world and technosphere...
I'm not one to say that the terrorist threat isn't real, and needs it's just focus, but I know that the government uses this so-called ENEMY THREAT as a means to fuck with our general wellbeing and stress levels.
No wonder people call 43 and his team THE DEVIL.

A High-tech lynching for upity Blacks.
I was reminded of Clarence Thomas' retort to Anita HIll this morning as a shuffld through CNN.COM... they ran a story on phrases that quickly became part of the every day lexicon, stuff like "if the glove doesn't fit, then you must aquit" and "I did not have sexual relations with that woman, Monica Lewinsky."
Thomas decried Anita Hill by claiming she was seduced (money or otherwise) to step forward and that her testimony was character assassination/public lynching for an upity "nigga." (my quotes)...
Honestly, I don't even understand this man's thought processes, and how he can in good conscience continue to serve as a Supremor. It still rattles the hell out of me, and it's probably what? 15 years old at this point. But damn, the man just has no sense of leadership, no sense of being a trailblazer and he's stridently anti-"can a brotha get a hand-out" in a time when Niggaz are getting beat-up by society in a way that they have never had in the past.
It's worse now that even for the so-called African-American because the insidiuous pressures of the popular age have sliced the black man's Achilles' tendon, and he's up here bleeding and no one's even thinking he's hurt 'cause he's sporting some gold jewels.
Bitch ass nigga doing bitch moves... Clarence's epitaph
